General Cleaning for Displays

  • Dust your displays with a microfiber cloth or soft feather duster. If needed, a gentle glass cleaner can be used (never spray directly onto art)

  • remove remaining moisture after cleaning

Bones:

  • Keep bones dry (Avoid high humidity environments like bathrooms and near houseplants!)

  • Display bones away from direct sunlight and heat sources

  • Dust bones using a soft-bristled brush, like a makeup or paint brush. If something heavier is needed, you can also use a vacuum with a clean sock over the end.

  • Monitor your bones for signs of mould or pests. If you suspect an infestation, seal the display in an airtight plastic bag and freeze for 3-4 days.

Preserved Insects

  • Display your specimen(s) in a dry, low-humidity environment (No bathrooms!)

  • Keep insect displays out of direct sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure can cause the specimen to fade.

  • Do NOT attempt to clean or dust the specimens themselves unless absolutely necessary.

  • Avoid unnecessary handling and opening of unsealed displays.

  • Inspect your preserved specimens regularly for signs of pests (tiny holes, serrated wing edges, "mite dust"/ debris). If you notice this type of damage, place the entire display in a plastic bag and freeze it for at least 4 days.

Butterfly Wing Earrings + Keychains

  • Keep earrings dry. Remove them before showering, swimming, or entering a sauna/steam room. Never soak earrings in water or cleaning solutions.

  • Store earrings away from sunlight and heat. This will help prevent yellowing or colour change in the resin or wings (Avoid leaving them in hot cars or near sunny windows)

  • Gently remove oils and dust with a microfiber cloth. Never use alcohol, acetone, or any other solvents. If needed, a damp cloth (with water only) can be used to spot clean. Dry the earrings immediately afterwards

  • Avoid spraying perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, or other chemicals on the earrings. These products can make the resin look dull or cloudy.
